Freenet Antennas UltraUSB
[UltraUSB]

As an ISP, missing out on HiBis, Broadband Connect, and yet to receive ABG subsidies, we needed a working but not expensive option for the client end with shorthaul clients, ie up to 500m or so from the transmitter, (small country town). These were in the zone where an outside antenna and mast mounted client point was overkill, as they could, 60% of the time, receive an effective signal with an inside antenna.

We tried a few of these USB units with the standard 2dBi stick supplied, and saw a huge improvement of signal both ways with netstumbler, and just plain performance. Then we tried a 9dBi di-pole, and wow, at least a -10dBi improvement.

We transmit from a 360° 15dBi wave guide, being horizontal polarity, having the 9dBi di-pole horizontal as well, on a 600m odd link.

Then we tried a 2m coax to a 19dBi mesh converted TV parabolic grid standard feedhorn, outside, the USB adaptor just inside the roof cavity for weather protection, then a 7m USB cable to the computer. Wow, another -9 to -11dBi improvement. Have yet to calculate cable signal loss, but the site is so happy to have such good signal at such an economical price.

The included software is brilliant, so easy for the client to check on connection and signal strength, uncomplicated.

Next, just as a lark, we went to around 1km reach, not good LOS, setup a 15dBi omni stick, horizontal 3m above roofline, 4m coax, then the USB adaptor just inside the roof cavity, then 5m USB lead, (passive). Once again unbelievable signal using the included software. -65dBI signal, (57%-60%), all day, any conditions. weakens a little early morning, (10%), probably because of morning dew etc, but rain doesn't seem to affect signal with this temporary setup.

So without getting too bold, these are replacing the standard D-Link, TP-Link & Netgear UsB adaptors with incredible results and relaibility, out of the box, but usually supply the 9dBi di-poles as well.
