This cable is used to connect to the serial port on the Ubiquiti™ NanoStation and PicoStation range of products.
This allows you to directly access the bootup prompt, debug any boot issues with your kernel, and access the terminal of your firmware even if you don't have telnet or SSH access. You can interrupt the boot sequence, monitor the kernel boot, load a new firmware, or anything else you need to do. Have fun, and be careful!

As you can read in the above links, you have to make some small adjustments to the cable before use. But note that this adapter performs a voltage translation using electronics embedded in the plastic USB plug. You can not make your own adapter by simply soldering wires to a USB plug.
