The easy way to make a Mesh network.

This product comes pre-loaded with Open-Mesh firmware - an implementation of the open-source ROBIN mesh protocol. It must be managed by a server running the management ('Dashboard') controller. It is compatible with these management controllers:

Open-Mesh. This is run on a commercial basis but (at present) offers free hosting of your Dashboard.
OrangeMesh. OrangeMesh is the open-source Dashboard upon which Open-Mesh is based. You don't have to install OrangeMesh to run a ROBIN network. You can use the free hosted dashboard available at Open-Mesh.com; the default dashboard for ROBIN nodes. If you ever decide to run your own dashboard server with OrangeMesh, you can do that later; both dashboards can be used together.

Open-Mesh

Open-Mesh is a powerful software product that makes a distributed Access Point. The mesh is dynamic and automatically reconfigures itself as you re-arrange the network.

Customers who connect to the mesh can

Roam between nodes
Gain Access to the mesh in two ways:
- Free (eg corporate networks), or
- Paid (eg HotSpots)
Connect straight to the network, or see a Splash Page when they first connect (ideal for HotSpots).

The PicoStation2HP

This unit can be used indoor or outdoor. You MUST use the original o-ring sealed white antenna to prevent water entry. It comes with a free Wall Mount, a free Pole mount, and a Power Over Ethernet (POE) injector. All you add is a length of CAT5/LAN cable between the The PicoStation2HP and the POE injector, which is located near an AC power outlet.

Customer laptops will connect over a clear-line-of-sight radius of about 100m.

Network Management

You manage the network via the Dashboard at open-mesh.com. This is currently free service. We assume it will remain free, but only the owners of the server can guarantee that. Using the dashboard you can simply add nodes (PicoStations) to a Google Map, and define the way the mesh behaves. In particular, you can add one of many pre-defined templates for the (optional) Splash Page that the user sees when he/she first connects.

The Open Mesh is best modeled as a distributed firewall router. This virtual router has:

One or more 'WAN' ports. These are simply LAN cable connections to your existing LAN. This LAN must have:
- a DHCP server
- connectivity to the Internet
Any number of 'LAN' ports that are accessed physically (with a LAN cable) or via WiFi.
A NAT firewall between the 'WAN' port(s) and the mesh. That is a mesh client PC can see 'out' to devices on the LAN (optional) and the Internet. But the firewall blocks computers on the LAN or the Internet from connecting to mesh client PCs.

Open-Mesh comes with a number of pre-defined splash pages that a client sees when they first connect. After you choose a template, you can easily edit it to customise to your specific needs. Click on each image to enlarge.

Billing Management/Captive Portals

Open-Mesh integrates closely with various backend Hotspot billing companies. While the list is subject to change, below we have shown some of the supported billing backends. Each has its own range of features, but most have a way of customers paying for access (and you share the revenue) and Splash page customisation.

If you want a mesh of (e.g.) 5 PicoStation2HP nodes, order this product and specify Qty=5.

We Load the latest Open-Mesh firmware onto the number of PicoStationHP units that you ordered, and test them on our Dashboard.
We then ship to you, ready to deploy.

After this, you can add the nodes to your Dashboard then add optional optional features like:

Splash pages.
Paid access via a number of HotSpot payment gateways including PayPal.
