Active Power over Ethernet (POE) is required where the ethernet cable (CAT5) is longer than 20m. Active POE uses a higher voltage on the CAT5 cable to reduce the DC current, and hence the resistive voltage loss in the cable.
This Active POE Splitter is suitable for use with:
- Our Active POE Injector.
- Any 802.3af compliant power source (eg an 802.3af POE switch).
- Cisco™ Power Injectors. Sometimes called 'in-line' power. This uses CAT5 conductors 1,2,3, and 5 in a phantom fashion.
- CAT5 cable lengths of up to 150m

802.3af Compatibility
The POE Standard 802.3af defines certain limits and behaviours for both ends of the POE link. This splitter meets all 802.3af specifications.
What this means is that you can safely use this splitter with any 802.3af compatible power injector, such as our POE Active Injector, or any 802.3af compatible POE switch.
